Puppy Party

A few weeks ago Cole attended his friend, Rian Ford's first birthday party. It was a "Puppy Party"! Having never been to a Puppy Party before, both Cole and his parents didn't know quite what to expect. But wouldn't you know it... a Puppy Party is exactly what it sounds like, a party with a whole bunch of puppies.

Cole, being used to his big dog, Cooper, was a little thrown by the size and spunkiness of these small dogs but he seemed to enjoy himself all the same.

He was also able to meet "Auntie" Erin who flew out all the way from New York City.

10 Months Old

10 Months Old and Cruisin'

Cole is 10 months old today and trying to fit as much as he possibly can into each day. Cole is always on the go. Be it at school or at home, Cole is not one to sit still and observe. He is constantly curious about new things and always in a state of exploration.

This past month saw two milestones for Cole. He has turned the "pull up" into "cruisin'", whereby he will pull himself up using whatever is convenient (couch, end table, chair etc) and then proceeds to make his way down the length of or around the item in question while holding on to it. Mom and Dad will often motivate him with Puffs or Cheerios. More recently Cole has begun to let go of his safety net and if left standing for a split second before he plops down on his backside.

The second accomplishment has taken Cole almost exclusively off of baby food and into the realm of finger food. Cole enjoys feeding himself such delicacies as chicken, turkey, mac and cheese, green beans, vegetable medley and a wide assortment of other foods. We are still working on increasing the percentage of food that ends up in Cole's mouth rather than on the floor but that will come in time (and if Cooper the dog has any influence it will be a gradual process).

As always... here is the updated look back at 10 months

Easter Time

Cole celebrated his first Easter a few weeks ago with his whole family. Nana and Pop Pop Black were visiting from Arizona and Oma and Zeydeh Resnick came over to enjoy a nice relaxing afternoon spent watching to see what Cole would do next.

The weather wasn't the greatest so Cole experienced his first Easter Egg hunt in the family room. While it was not much of a hunt Cole did explore several eggs filled with Puffs. One egg, in particular, seemed to suit his fancy as he felt it doubled very well for a rattle.

Click below to watch Cole discovering something new... plastic eggs!!!

Next year we will attempt to explain why it's a rabbit that brings the eggs.

When Babies Attack

While observing and monitoring the behavior of a particular subject for any length of time it is often second nature to begin to think that there is a mutual understanding and respect. With that ever growing sense of security it becomes very easy to let your guard down. It is at that moment when these unpredictable creatures can turn on you and attack.

Let's not forget while they are cute and cuddly they are still babies... and everyone knows that babies are simply dangerous.

Below is footage of my colleague and I spending time with the youngest subject whom we affectionately have named Cole. As you can see, Cole has allowed us to enter into his space and we have even recently begun feeding him small treats. But when the treats run out the unthinkable can happen.

A Boy and His Dog

In the past we have taken a look at Cole's relationship with his dog Cooper.

- First was a lazy afternoon lounging up against ol' Coop when Cole was just 2 weeks old.

- Next came My Buddy a few weeks later.

- And then a look when he was 6 months old.

Now, another 3 months later we revisit the growing relationship.

Now that Cole is mobile Cooper has become more of a play partner and climbing apparatus. Cole is quick to speed over to Cooper and start pulling himself up on top of Cooper. Cooper being the gentle pacifist that he is either just lays there or gets up and leaves the room which prompts Cole to give chase. Very entertaining to watch.

Cooper on the other hand has taken to following close behind Cole whenever he happens to be carrying Cheerios or Puffs just in case one is liberated from Cole's deathgrip on them. Cooper also enjoys hanging about below Cole's high chair waiting for anything that happens to drop on the floor.

It is a very satisfying relationship for both parties.

Below are some of the most recent interactions between the two "boys of the house"

Arts and Crafts

The beautiful weather this past weekend provided the opportunity to try some finger painting in the backyard. Activity time was cut short as Cole quickly decided that painting the grass and his face were more interesting that providing a new work of art for the refrigerator... and then the fussiness set in :)

Oh well... Spring and Summer will offer up many a nice day to try new things. A priceless gem will no doubt appear as a result!!
