Zoners head west

Friends and family from Arizona have and will be heading west to visit young Cole. Earlier this week our good friend Drake was out visiting family from Phoenix and he was able to stop by to meet the lil' man.

And this weekend his Nana and Pop Pop are heading out from Sierra Vista for a quick visit.

Hoping for a cooler weekend.

Grocery outing and going "Dutch"

This past week Cole experienced his first grocery store outing. We were curious to see how he would handle being out of his familiar surroundings and placed into a high stimulus environment with many new faces around. All in all... he did pretty well.

After having a fussy spell shortly after arriving, Cole settled in and was pretty calm.... until he gave us a bit of a scare.

As we were wrapping up the shopping and had procured all of the items on our list, Cole made a break for it. We were shocked to watch as he headed right for the bakery to see if there were any treats to his liking. Luckily, we were able to track him down in short order but not before he made a play for a rice crispy treat.

Once we collected Cole and headed for the checkout line we were again flabbergasted to watch as Cole went seeking for a piece of his heritage... his Dutch heritage. He found it right in the beer aisle.

After heading home and seeing that Cole was interested in learning more about The Netherlands we gathered up some of his clothes that he received from Holland and had him give them a try.

He even took the time to pose for us.

Just another day in the life of Cole David Black

1 Month Old

Cole is one month old today!

The past month has changed our lives to say the least. Each and every day Cole brings new wonder to our lives. The littlest things are the largest accomplishments. His concentration and focus on our faces or his infatuation with watching the ceiling fans along with his increased appetite and longer periods of sleep bring smiles to our faces each day.

He seems like he is very mild mannered... even keeled (at least at this point). When he is hungry or unhappy he lets us know but in most cases he is happy to simply be held or to spend some relaxing time in his swing.

As mentioned before, he is all about his hands. He loves to wave them around, often catching himself in the jaw with a self inflicted upper cut. He is also a sucker for the BIG stretch... he arches his back and his entire body goes rigid as he works out all the kinks.

He continues to grow each and every day and it is amazing to look back to the day he was born and to see the difference 1 month can make.

Funny Faces to Fussy Puss

Cole is 4 weeks old today and 1 month old on Monday (stew on that one for a bit... 28 days does not 1 month make). Cole is growing and becoming more and more aware of his surroundings every day. His expressions are hilarious and continues to be into the big gestures with his hands (must be the Italian in him).

Recently he has taken to "switching gears" with remarkable speed. Happy, fussy, sleepy, content, fussy, content, sleepy. And that is about in 5 min.

Here is a video that captures a bit of the mood swings.

Hot Momma

While JD has returned full time to work Toby is quickly becoming the master Mom. She is super with Cole and keeps him entertained all day with long walks, stories about his goofy dad and dishing about the hottest topic on Oprah.

Here is a shot of the beautiful mom and her wonderful son

Another shot of Toby with both her "boys"

And a glamour shot of the Lil' All Star

My Buddy

As you can see, Cole has been making friends and exploring his environment but when it comes right down to it... he has but one true buddy

3 weeks old

Cole is three weeks old today. After careful consideration Mom and Dad have determined that it has been an extremely long three weeks while going by wonderfully fast... make sense? Keep in mind this is being written by someone who was up at 1, 4 and 6:30am this morning.

JD went back to work on Thursday and Toby has done a wonderful job managing Cole all on her own during the day. It is also nice to know we have a strong support group to call upon when needed.

Thursday afternoon Cole met another (lady) friend (Cole is really focusing on the females at this point in his life... he will expand his list of "buds" soon enough). Ainsley Bennett (16 months old) and her mom came over to visit and allowed Cole to learn some tricks of the trade from someone who has experienced their first birthday party.

Raise the Roof

What can I say...

The boy likes to "raise the roof" while he sleeps. This kid is all about his hands... every which way... he has never been keen on having his hands swaddled up.

In other words... he particularly enjoys throwing his hands in ther air and waving them about as if he just don't care!

Goodnight My Angel

Getting Cole to sleep can be a challenge at times, while at other moments he simply drifts off into dreamland at the drop of a hat. Either way once he is asleep there is this sense of peace that surrounds him... or maybe it is simply the fact that it gives mom and dad a few quick minutes to catch up on everything.

Anyway...

Tummy Time - Take 1

Cole is still a little young to fully appriciate the art of the tummy time... but we figured we would give it a try anyway. To top it off, Cole had the hiccups which made it that much more entertaining.

and a few pics...

More New Friends

Had the pleasure of meeting another new (girl) friend. Gaby Shiffman came by this weekend with her folks to visit. Gaby is 7 months old and is quite the looker... if you look closely in one of the pics, Cole seems to be winking at the camera... what's up playa!!!

After an afternoon charming the ladies, Cole needs to rest up and regain his energy

Experimenting with this "Tummy Time" thing... be sure to check back for more.

Gearin' up for the weekend

Two weeks old on Saturday... gearing up for a big weekend.

Cole hung with his best buddy Cooper this afternoon. Cooper, who is more apt to lay on someone, begrudgingly allowed Cole to prop himself up while taking in an episode of M*A*S*H*

Cole remains a little small and still is swimming a bit in some of his outfits but as everyone knows baggy is in...

And a close up as he rides into the sunset

... and pictures some more

More pictures of Cole for today. He and Dad helped celebrate Mom's birthday today by sleeping, eating and pooping... just what she was hoping for.

Took another bath and tried out the cute "doggie towel".

Took in a good nap

and hung out in the bouncer seat while Oma and Zeydeh... came over for dinner.

Another full day gone by... bring on the next!!!

Big Day in LA

Big day today... had a Dr appt. All signs point to a healthy baby. Weight up to 7lbs and grown a 1/4 inch. All that in just one week.

Cole was able to hang with someone a little closer to his own age. Rian Ford and her folks came by for a visit. Rian is now 11 weeks and has grown so much since we saw her back in May.

We will place this pic next to their prom photo in 17 years.

After Rian left, Cole was pretty beat and had to get his quality naptime in (he looks so much like a little man here... it just kills us).

Have a great 4th of July!!! Feel free to drop us a line !

Mom and Cole bond through the art of the nap

A few shots after "bath time"

And a parting shot of "the sleep". That's how Cole rolls.

See you next time. Feel free to drop us a line !
