5 Months Old

5 months of just hangin out

Cole is 5 months old today!!! He has settled into quite a routine now that he has been at school for a month and a half and continues to experience new things both while with his friends and teachers at school and while at home with Mom and Dad.

This month Cole has gotten in touch with his body (in a good way). He is all about his hands and toes... both of which often find their way into his mouth. We believe that Cole may be starting the early teething process as he can often be found with one or more fingers in his mouth and drool attempting to make an escape.

He has also gotten a hang of the whole rolling over thing. He put in his time and worked on it for quite a while before perfecting the process but now is regularly on his back moments after being placed on his tummy.

Cole has become well adjusted to his band (helmet) and is making great progress with the back of his head rounding out quite nicely.

Other than that, Cole continues to be a very happy child. He starts the day off with a conversation rather than a cry, and greets friends and family each day with a great big smile.

And the look back at the past 5 months.

Movin Up the Food Chain

In the past week, Cole has started to introduce some "solids" into his diet. He still partakes in his bottles but has also been introduced to Rice Cereal and Oatmeal. He seems to enjoy both and is always entertaining to watch as he experiences these new tastes and textures.

Here are some video highlights.

You Say It's Your Birthday

This past weekend Cole attended his first birthday party. His friend Gaby Shiffman turned 1 year old on Sunday. Both Cole and Gaby have grown a bit since thier first meeting .

A grand time was had by all both kids and adults alike.

Here is a video recap of the wonderful day!!

Put me in coach

Cole is doing very well and has become very comfortable with his new band (helmet). He barely even notices that he is wearing it. Mom and Dad can attest to the fact that his head butts do pack a bit more of a punch... Zinedine Zidane would be proud.

Today Cole was sporting his "Future Quarterback" outfit and with his new head gear he looked like he was ready to go out and start for the Chargers.

Here are a few shots

Under Construction

Cole is working on rounding out his noggin! He has what is technically known as plagiocephaly. Basically, it means he has a slightly asymmetrical head (a flat spot). It isn’t too severe but without treatment it could potentially cause some problems later on.

The solution is a "band" that fits around his head... kind of a really light-weight partial helmet. He’ll wear it all day for 2 to 3 months at which time it will have gently reshaped his head. In order to make the band, the physical therapist had to take a cast of Cole’s head. A bit invasive to the patient, but Cole was a trooper and came through with a smile in the end.

Two weeks after casting, Cole had his band and he’s now wearing it around the clock for the next couple months while it works its magic. The end result will yield a head that even Charlie Brown would be jealous of!

Here is a video slideshow of the process.

Check back for "after" pictures in January or February!

First Halloween

As the ghosts and ghouls and all things orange are retired for another year, we look back on Cole's first Halloween. During the entire week, Cole was able to strut his stuff in all his Halloween themed outfits and PJ's all leading up to his big debut in his Lion outfit / costume.

Celebrating the time of year, Cole was able to spend time at the pumpkin patch (see previous post), his school Harvest Festival (where "Cole" guessed the weight of the giant pumpkin - 88lbs - and was able to take it home) and Halloween night visiting neighbors.

Here is a video recap of the fun week, including some pictures of Mom and Dad's pumpkin carving skills (Dad's is a little niche... it's Homestar Runner from HomeStarrunner.com).
